Julie Arsenault was born in Saint-Siméon, Gaspésie. She has a college diploma in psychology and a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work. She started her career in 1982, as a social worker in New Brunswick, working with Indigenous children, teenagers and their families. In 1988 she returned to university to complete her master’s degree, and then began working in Nova Scotia as a clinical social worker specializing in mental health with teenagers and families. She then further specialized to provide PTSD assessments and treatments to military personnel.
Julie has close to 40 years’ professional experience, including 16 years as a self-employed therapist. She opened her practice in Halifax in 2006, moving to the Gaspésie in 2010 where she continued practising until she retired in 2020. She has a profound understanding of the challenges of entrepreneurship, such as risk taking, isolation and the importance of developing business partnerships.
Julie Arsenault believes mentoring is, “actively listening to the other person and helping them identify their strengths, asking the right questions to help shed light on the situation, help them grow and achieve their goals.”
